Glen Cares
The Glen Management embarked on a three year strategy plan
to raise The Glen to the next level.
The elimination of crime and particularly incidents linked to shopping centres is an important priority to the entire country.
Hence The Glen Centre Management decided to create a permanent community driven exercise. Its imitation has to be short, dynamic and intense to create a permanent foundation for continuous delivery. Thus "THE GLEN CARES - YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE" campaign was born.
SA Guide Dogs
The Glen regularly supplies charity organizations with court space for promotions and fund raisers. From the 21st to the 23rd August 2009 The South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind held an excellent promotion to raise much needed funds to provide more blind people with the gift of independence. Customers could purchase fluffy toy puppies, simply donate money or purchase a R10 ticket to stand in line to win a brand new Golf Tenacity!
The Thusanani Childrens Foundation
The Thusanani Childrens Foundation is a small charity which works at a grassroots level in South Africa. Our aim is to help babies and young children who have been orphaned through HIV/AIDS, abandonment or abusive home environments. Our primary goal is to identify children who are developmentally delayed as a result of inadequate stimulation in homes and orphanages.
Our mission is to promote the normal development of these children in the 0 to 6 year age group through providing free hands-on Occupational Therapy, thus preventing future disability.
Our efforts also include:
- care-worker training - highlighting the importance of early development and play as the "food" to nourish the brain and body,
- collection and distribution of educational toys,
- provision of free adoption assessments to speed up the adoption process significantly, and
- organization and facilitation of monthly outings for underprivileged children
Thusanani aims to empower orphanages and selected townships and squatter camps to realize the importance of early development and play as the "food" to nourish the brain and body. By intervening early, we can assist in the development of functional little beings as our future in South Africa.
The Glen Shopping Centre is one of Thusanani's major supporters, and every month they finance one of the homes which we are involved with. This includes facilitating a visit to a shopping centre, which for children living in the rural areas of the country, can be a very exciting expedition! Spur Steak Ranches, WIMPI and The Magic Company also continue to participate in these outings and accommodate our children where they can.
Thusanani Children's Foundation, in conjunction with The Glen Shopping centre, believe in the importance of organizing and facilitating monthly outings for underprivileged children.
The Children had the opportunity to enjoy delicious food and drinks at Wimpy, play a few games at The Magic Company and experience the general atmosphere of the shopping centre.
Children from the Nazareth House were treated to a day out at The Glen Shopping Centre on Monday 6th July 2009.
